Water Engineering and Management (WEM) doctoral student, Ms. Ansita Gupitakingkin Pradipta, shares her experience of a three-week internship at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore, one of the world’s leading universities. NTU is also home to several research centers of excellence, such as the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS). The EOS was created in 2008 with the mission to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward safer and more sustainable societies. Ansita shares her experience working at EOS and writes:

“Participating in an internship at one of the top universities in the world is a great experience. While studying for an undergraduate degree, I wanted to continue my education at NTU. And for now, I am tremendously appreciative and pleased to have the chance to experience being a visiting student here. I have gained a lot of knowledge from this internship, including the chance to attend international seminars with fascinating topics; interact with professors and researchers who are experts in the fields of climate, risk and society, tectonics, volcanoes, and the environment in general; observe and follow the pace of the researchers working here; and also expand my network, which will undoubtedly assist in my career development after I graduate from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). I also had the chance to experience discipline in a developed country for the first time, which was another lesson.”

Ansita added, “I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Ho Hu Loc (Assistant Professor at WEM, AIT) and Dr. Edward Park (Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Education/NIE and Principal Investigator/PI at the EOS, NTU) for providing me with this truly memorable opportunity. Hopefully, there will be more opportunities for other WEM students to experience internships like this at NTU or other leading universities worldwide. I wish the partnership between AIT and NTU will develop further and have a profoundly positive impact on social and environmental circumstances in Southeast Asia as well as the rest of the world.”

WEM congratulates Ms. Ansita for the internship and wishes her good luck in her future endeavours.
