WEM organized its “Annual Field Exercise” as part of the study of the “Research Design and Experimental Methods” course at the Pasak Dam, Lopburi Province, Thailand on 14 and 15 February 2020.

The students during their two days of fieldwork at Pa Sak Jolasid Dam, the longest earth dam in Thailand carried out different field experiments and also observed various stages of development of the large-scale water resources project. The project officers from the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) provided an overview of the history and development of the project included with the technical requirements for the effective and efficient management of water necessary for irrigation and flood control. Furthermore, the students also got an opportunity to observe and interact at different hydraulic structures like gated spillway, stilling basin, channel, auxiliary spillway and a hydropower plant (6.7 MW) in the project during the visit. Meanwhile, students in their group also carried out field exercises like discharge measurement, sediment measurement and water quality measurement using various instruments. In addition to this, the students also visited the local market near the resort, tried some local food and roamed around during their leisure time.
