The Water Engineering and Management Program (WEM) of the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, jointly with the Isabela State University (ISU), Philippines, successfully conducted a seminar on Effective Water Resource Management for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management at the Milton-Bender Auditorium of AIT on 28 September 2022.

Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Department Head, Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, AIT, delivered the opening remarks by extending a warm welcome to all the delegates and seminar participants. Mr. Saurav KC, IREM Lab Supervisor at WEM program AIT, briefly introduced all the distinguished speakers for the seminar from ISU and AIT. Furthermore, Dr. S. Mohana Sundaram, Program Chair of the Water Engineering and Management program of AIT, welcomed all the participants and delivered a presentation on “Research and Outreach Activities in Water Engineering and Management, AIT.” The second speaker Dr. Kavinda Gunasekara from AIT highlighted some major projects and digital platforms developed by AIT in Disaster Risk Management.

The next session included a presentation from Dr. Orlando F. Balderama, Vice President, Research and Development, Extension and Training, ISU, where he discussed “Integrated Flood Water Resources Management in Cagayan River Basin, the Philippines for Sustainable Development.” This was followed by the next presenter Dr. Boyet L. Batang, Vice President, Academics and Related Affairs, ISU, on “Presentation of Proposal for 2nd International Conference on Climate Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management”.

Atty. Romano P. Cammayo, Vice President, Administration and Finance Services, ISU, extended sincere thanks to all the presenters and participants in his closing remarks. He further discussed possible collaboration opportunities between WEM/AIT and ISU. Additionally, the delegates from ISU also visited the hydraulics and IREM laboratory at WEM, AIT.
