Mr. Palakorn Chanbanyong, a Sustainable Hydropower Specialist at Mekong River Commission Secretariat (MRCS) delivered a guest lecture on ‘MRC’s Support on Sustainable Hydropower Development in the Lower Mekong Basin’ on 18 February. MRC has a long-standing history and experience in transboundary water management and water diplomacy in the region. In his talk, Mr. Palakorn briefly introduced about MRC and working philosophy of the MRC in sustainable water management. He also discussed the fundamental principles MRC follows in hydropower development to avoid transboundary impacts on the environment, fisheries, and livelihoods in Lower Mekong Basin. Through various case studies, he presented about the MRC’s tools and guidelines to support member states for the sustainable hydropower development in the Mekong region.
