Water Engineering and Management (WEM) program is excited to announce the promotion of Dr. Sangam Shrestha to the rank of full professor, effective from January 2020. Since his arrival at the program in November 2009, Dr. Sangam has worked tirelessly to move the program forward, both in his capacity as a ‘regular’ faculty member and as a ‘program chair’.
Prof. Sangam’s scholarly activities are prodigious, timely, and innovative; more importantly, is their positive impact on the discipline. Prof. Sangam is recognized for his original contributions in the field of climate change and water resources, particularly for the development and application of the tools and techniques for the climate change impact assessment and adaptation on water and water use sectors. His research interests are within the field of hydrology and water resources including, climate change impact assessment and adaptation in the water, integrated water resources management and groundwater development and management.
Prof. Sangam has been the main supervisor for more than 100 students. The Scopus data shows that he has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles with citations over 1900 and h-index of 19. His recent book publications include ‘Climate Change and Water Resources’ by CRC Press, ‘Managing Water Resources under Climate Uncertainty’ by Springer, ‘Water-Energy-Food Nexus: Principles and Practices’ by AGU- Wiley and ‘Groundwater Environment in Asian Cities’ by Elsevier.
He has been leading several projects relating to water resources management, climate change impacts, and adaptation with awards from International organizations such as ADB, APN, CIDA, EU, FAO, HSBC, IFS, IGES, SEI, UNEP, UNESCO, WB. He is also serving in the advisory committee of several international organizations and in the editorial board of prestigious journals. At AIT, Prof. Sangam has been awarded the ‘Distinguished Research Leader Award’ two times, in 2015 and 2019.
