Prof. Sangam Shrestha Appointed as Steering Committee Member for APN’s Global Sustainability Initiative
8 October 2024: Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Co-Director of Global Water & Sanitation Center (GWSC) at AIT and a faculty member in Water Engineering and Management (WEM) has been appointed as a member of the Steering Committee (SC) of the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN). His extensive regional expertise and network are expected to contribute significantly to the APN’s vision and mission.
As a member of the SC, Prof. Shrestha will be involved in developing APN’s annual operating plan, overseeing its implementation, reviewing APN’s long-term strategic plans, and approving the annual financial report and budget. He will also participate in evaluating and approving projects recommended by the Scientific Planning Group (SPG) and the Capacity Development Committee (CDC) and other activities undertaken by APN. Additionally, the SC will work on facilitating funding from international organizations, private foundations, and other stakeholders to support APN’s projects and activities.
Prof. Shrestha expressed his appreciation for the appointment, noting, “As a member of the Steering Committee, I look forward to contributing my expertise to support APN’s mission in addressing global change and promoting sustainability in the Asia-Pacific region.”
Established in 1996, APN is an international non-profit organization headquartered in Kobe, Japan, with a vision to address global change and sustainability through research and capacity development. APN’s initiatives align with key global agendas, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Since 2012, AIT and APN have collaborated to advance sustainable research efforts, especially in areas related to climate change and water resources.
