WEM doctoral candidate Mr. Saurav KC shares his experience participating in the Development Research Conference (DevRes 2022) in Uppsala and Stockholm, Sweden (August 22-24, 2022) hosted by GlobeLife, a joint initiative of Uppsala University and Karolinska Institutet. This year’s theme for the conference was “Transforming Development Research for Sustainability.” Saurav writes:
“I am delighted to present our research ‘Developing a Pragmatic Framework for Indexing Groundwater Governance under Stress: Initiative on Groundwater Sustainability in the Lower Mekong Region’ work at the DevRes2022 conference at the Uppsala University, Sweden, under the technical session of ‘Frameworks and Integrated Water and Sanitation Management. The research is part of the Groundwater Integrated Regional Assessment (GIRA) project funded by the Sustainable Mekong Research Network (SUMERNET) program. The appreciation and suggestions received from the world’s scientists and practitioners were very rewarding and further motivated me to explore innovations for good groundwater governance and sustainable management. Furthermore, it was an excellent learning and networking opportunity to mingle with researchers from a diverse community and travel around Sweden and some fascinating European cities. I want to thank my advisor, Prof. Sangam Shrestha, for the GIRA project team and the SUMERNET program for providing me the opportunity and a platform to engage in such a useful event.”
The DevRes was founded in 2016 as a multi-disciplinary forum for researchers in development and sustainability fields. The conference aims to promote networking and collaboration between researchers, public agencies, policymakers, organisations and practitioners to find solutions for poverty and develop strategies for the future of sustainable development. The DevRes2022 conference was conducted both on-site as well as via digital live-streaming. The 1st day of the conference was conducted at Uppsala University, the 2nd day fully online and the 3rd day at Karolinska Institutet.
