WEM master’s student Mr. Yaggesh Kumar Sharma shares his experience as an intern with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC), Bangkok, an autonomous international organization that works to build the resilience of people and institutions to disasters and climate change impacts in Asia and the Pacific. Yaggesh writes:
“The six months (May-Nov 2021) internship at the Climate Change Resilience department in ADPC provided me with an opportunity to get involved in the Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CARE) for the South Asia project. The CARE project assists the region in developing climate-resilient decisions, policies, and investments by improving regional data and knowledge, developing guidelines, tools, and capacities, and promoting climate-resilient decisions, policies, and investments across key sectors. My major tasks were identifying groundwater storage in Punjab, Sindh and Baluchistan province of Pakistan, evaluating surface water storage through different satellite products, and spatial data generated from the different climatic models. This opportunity has helped me improve my knowledge of groundwater, various satellite products, and the availability of surface water storage using Google Earth Engine and Python, which has given me confidence in applying what I’ve learned in my research. I want to thank the ADPC team and my mentors Dr. Senaka Basnayake, Director, Climate Change & Resilience and Dr. Niladri Gupta, Senior Water Resources Management Specialist, for providing me with this wonderful opportunity”.
WEM congratulates Mr. Sharma for completing the internship at ADPC and wishes him good luck in his future endeavours.
