Dr. Prasert Patramai supports AIT with a Full Master’s Scholarship in Water Engineering and Management
On 3 October 2024, Dr. Prasert Patramai and Prof. Pai-Chi Li, President of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) signed a donation agreement to support a full Master’s scholarship in Water Engineering and Management (WEM) at the School of Engineering and Technology (SET). This generous scholarship will cover the full tuition fees and four semesters of registration fees for a student of any nationality pursuing a degree in WEM.
Dr. Prasert Patramai, is the co-founding member and former Chairman of the Board at TEAM Group. He is a Distinguished AIT alumnus who completed both his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Water Resources Engineering in 1971 and 1973, respectively and was also inducted into the AIT Hall of Fame in 2010, further highlighting his impactful contributions to the society, especially in the field of water resources engineering.
AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li stated that it is an honor to meet Dr. Prasert being an esteemed member of the AIT Hall of Fame, setting a remarkable example for us. Furthermore, AIT truly value his generous contribution towards a scholarship in WEM and his past support to the library modernization. He mentioned that this support not only enhances opportunities for future students but also underscores the power of alumni in shaping AIT’s future. He appreciated Dr. Prasert’s kindness and continued generosity.
Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Executive Director in the Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs extended a warm welcome to Dr. Prasert upon his return to his alma mater and expressed gratitude for his generous donation for a Full Master’s Scholarship in Water Engineering and Management. He also highlighted that Dr. Prasert was the second doctoral student in the WEM program, making his legacy even more remarkable. And stated, since the AIT President’s arrival in September, it has been a delight to witness the support of numerous donors, alumni, and companies towards AIT. President Prof. Li is enthusiastic about maintaining and fostering such partnerships in the future.
Dr. Mohana Sundaram Shanmugam, Program Chair in Water Engineering & Management expressed his gratitude on behalf of the School of Engineering and Technology for the scholarship in Water Engineering and Management (WEM). We take pride in the fact that within WEM, we have numerous alumni holding prestigious positions, including individuals like Dr. Prasert.
Dr. Prasert reflected on his longstanding connection with AIT, sharing that he feels indebted to the Institute. He stated that while most students only stay for two years for their Master’s degrees, he spent four and a half years at AIT, including his doctoral studies and work as a research assistant. Therefore, whenever I have the chance, I will give back to AIT. He also shared that more than 100 AIT alumni are employed in his company, and at nearly 80 years old, he still thinks on expanding his business across the ASEAN region. Dr. Prasert fondly recalled his involvement in establishing AIT’s first alumni database and expressed his willingness to assist in reconnecting with graduates from the 1960s and 1970s to further strengthen the alumni network.
Also present at the signing ceremony were Ms. Lucena D. Talaid, Senior Alumni Affairs Officer, and Mr. Bhaskaran Jacob, Senior Advancement Officer, from the Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs.
