Competition Guidelines
ARTICLE 1: Purpose of the Competition:
World Water Day (March 22nd) celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people currently living without access to safe water. A core focus of World Water Day is to inspire action towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
The theme of World Water Day 2024 is “Water for Peace” Scarcity, pollution, and unequal access can escalate tensions among communities and nations. Despite over 3 billion people relying on transboundary water sources, only 24 countries have comprehensive cooperation agreements. With climate change intensifying and populations expanding, urgent action is needed to unite nations in safeguarding this vital resource. Public health, prosperity, food and energy security, economic productivity, and environmental health hinge on a well-managed and equitable water cycle. World Water Day 2024 has three key messages, “Water can create peace or spark conflict; Prosperity and peace rely on water and Water can lead us out of crisis and Water can either foster peace or fuel conflict.” Thus, emphasizing ‘‘Water for Peace’’, urging cooperation to foster harmony and prosperity. Recognizing water as a human right essential to life, let’s unite and use it for peace.
The winners of the Monologue competition will be selected based on pre-recorded audio and/or video submissions addressing the theme “Water for Peace” and the challenges associated with water scarcity, pollution, and unequal access.
