Water Engineering and Management program of AIT and University of Exeter, UK had jointly organized the inception workshop for ENRICH project on February 5, 2019. The proposed ENRICH (Enhancing Resilience to future Hydro-meteorological extremes in the Mun river basin in Northeast of Thailand) project will be implemented through 2.5 years research program, starting from October 2018 to March 2021. The overarching aim of this project is to understand the impact of the combined stressors of climate variability, climate change and land-use change on hydro-meteorological extremes in the Mun River Basin and to recommend adaptation measures to enable sustainable management of water resources and improve water security in the coming decades. The project will be implemented by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand with support from the University of Exeter in the UK and relevant government agencies.
The project team from AIT consists of Prof. Tawatchai Tingsanchali, Prof. Mukand Babel and Dr. Sangam Shrestha and from the UK consists of Prof. Slobodan Djordjevic, Prof. Mat Collins and Dr. Albert Chen.
The objectives of the inception workshop were to get feedback on most critical issues related to overall objectives and scope of the ENRICH project as well as insights on the hydro-meteorological extremes, and identify opportunities and synergies for collaboration in terms of data exchange, knowledge and experience sharing etc. for achieving the project goals. The workshop was highly interactive, actively engaged participants in discussions from senior managerial level staff from key water-related government agencies in Thailand, international organizations and international non-governmental organizations and researchers.
