WEM Welcomes New Students with In-Depth Orientation and Nascent Student Support System

Pathum Thani, August 8, 2024 – The Water Engineering and Management (WEM) program welcomes 27 incoming students of the August 2024 batch, from 12 different countries. They are graduates from universities across Asia, from the plateau of Pakistan to the islands of the Philippines. This is one of the largest and most diverse groups of incoming students in recent years with ten of them being women from five different countries. They are testaments to WEM’s dedication to the internationality and diversity of our student community with a focus on water resource management, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure development.

The event was kickstarted by the warm welcomes and from-the-heart sharing of our Faculty members, Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, Distinguished Professor Mukand S. Babel, Program Chair Asst. Prof. Mohana S. Shanmugam, and Asst. Prof. Natthachet Tangdamrongsub. All wished our new students success and offered sincere advice on how to balance study and life throughout their time at AIT.

Our dedicated team of staff members, including the Program Administrator – Ms. Yanee Sornkaew, the Business Development and Communication Officer – Ms. Rojina Shrestha, and Mr. Ruel Puno – Laboratory Senior Technician, also offered warmhearted greetings and congratulations to our new students.

After a friendly round of self-introduction, the new students were then presented with in-depth details of the WEM program, curriculum, study plan as well as available facilities by Asst. Prof. Shanmugam and Mr. Puno.

The presentations were followed by the introduction of the Student Support System, conceptualized by Mr. Hoang Minh “Thomas” Nguyen – the Senior PhD Student Representative, and assisted by Mr. Rishab Nakarmi – the Senior Master’s Student Representative. The system was developed to build long-lasting connections between students of different batches, backgrounds, and experiences in order to maximize new students’ potential and ensure a smooth transition into life on campus.
